NEPAL TIBET TRADE TALKS BEGIN

TWO-DAY NEPAL-TIBET TRADE TALKS BEGIN

Kathmandu, 9 May: Two-day Nepal-Tibet trade talks begin at joint secretary level began in the Nepalese capital Monday.
Nepal’s is Tibet’s largest trading partner; annual trade talks are held every year alternately in Nepal and Tibet.
China has provided duty free access to 368 items but Nepal hasn’t benefited much from the facility.
The Nepali team is led by Joint Secretary Toya Narayan Geywali at commerce and supply ministry.
Nepal will discuss easing quarantine restrictions along Nepal-Tibet border to increase Nepali exports and opening an outlet of a Chinese bank in Nepal to regularize trade.
Overall trade with mainland China will also be discussed.

ABANDONED BOMB KILLS TEENAGER IN ROLPA

Kathmandu, 9 May: A bomb abandoned during the 10-year Maoist people’s war killed Rajendra Pun, 15, along Madi khola in Rolpa.
Another person was seriously injured in the explosion.
Nepal Army is clearing the countryside of landmines planted by both the army and Maoists during the insurgency.

CHETRI SAMAJ CLOSED DOWN FIVE DISTRICTS IN THE FAR-WEST

Kathmandu, 9 May: A one-day strike called by Chetri Samaj, demanding rights of the largest ethnic group, closed down Dang and four adjoining districts in the far-West Monday.
They were supported by Brahmins and other groups opposing creation of ethnic provinces.
Chetris are demanding their rights be secured in a future constitution.

BHAKTAPUR TENSE

Kathmandu, 9 May: Bhaktapur was tense Monday after five members of a family were mowed down by a mini-truck at Suryabinakay overnight.
One seriously injured person is undergoing treatment at a specialist hospital,
Police tried tore-open a road blocked by protestors at Suryabinayak Monday morning.
