NEW TERAI PARTY SEEKS OFFICIAL RECOGNITION

DETAILS OF BUS ACCIDENT

Kathmandu, 26 May: Two passengers were killed and 13 others were injured, seven seriously, when a bus heading from Bhulbhule in Lamjung for the capital plunged into Mayshyngdhi river Thursday.
The injured are being treated locally in the western district.

MJFN REPUBLICAN SEEKS EC RECOGNITION

Kathmandu, 26 May: MJFN Republican has sought official recognition from the election commission after splitting from ruling MJFN led by Upendra Yadav who is deputy prime minister and foreign minister.
The party defected with 13 of 25 lawmakers of MJFN.
MJFN Republican applied for recognition Wednesday.
A attempt by government to approve an amendment to an interim constitution through a two-third majority vote in parliament was immediately foiled.’
But the opposition is still obstructing government attempt to register the bill for vote in the legislature; the bill, if presented, could be approved with support of defectors in the loose of 17-party alliance that has been assembled against the majority communist government of Prime Minister Jhalanath Khanal.

MAJORITY NC SUPPORTERS ELECTED IN TU TEACHERS’ COMMITTEE

Kathmandu, 26 May: Majority TU supporters were elected in The Tribhuvan University Teachers’ Association by the fourth national convention Wednesday.
Fifteen central committee members were elected and 135 teachers were nominated to represent the Association at a national convention of Nepal Professors’ Association.
Office bearers of the teachers’ association will be filled later.
Eight NC, four UML and three Maoist supporters were elected.

NEPAL-BHUTAN TRADE TALKS CONCLUDE

Kathmandu, 26 May: The two-day second round joint secretary level Nepal-Bhitan trade talks concluded in Thimpu Wednesday.
Results of the talks weren’t immediately revealed.

APPOINTMNTS IN GOVT. AGENCIES

Kathmandu, 26 May: Balaram Timilshina has been appointed chairman of Nepal Television board by the cabinet.
Ganesh Bhandari has been appointed Chairman of Nepal Movie Development Board.
The agencies are under the communication ministry controlled by Maoists.
Ran Lal Tuladhar has been appointed executive director of Development Committee of International Convention Center.
