Bhutanese refugee leader killed

Kathmandu, 9 Sept: Two unidentified persons Tuesday night killed a Bhutanese refugee leader at a camp in Beldangi, Jhapa, by mercilessly beating him with a rod.
Former camp secretary KB Khadka was battered by two motorcyclists who fled.
Khadka supported third country settlement of refugees.
Altogether 20,000 of 108,000 refugees at camps in Morang and Jhapa have been resettled mainly in USA since November 2007, UNHCR and International Organization for Migration said.

Three agreements being signed with China

Kathmandu, 9 Sept: Nepal and China are signing three agreements [during the current China visit of Foreign Minister Sujata Koirala].
Agreements are being signed for the construction of a dry port at Tatopani, the supply of 40 vehicles for Kathmandu municipality to transport garbage and construction of overhead bridges in the capital at Kalanki, Koteshwor and Chabahil, Koirala said.

Kathmandu, 9 Sept: Amid continuing violence in the terai, chemist Salikram Shah, 55, was shot and injured in Janakpur overnight.
A policeman was murdered overnight in Banke by unknown people.
Nepal Army defused a power bomb at district court in Parsa Wednesday morning.
Two members of Terai Cobra wanted for a bombing in Kapilvasthu were arrested overnight, police said.

Three crew members survive a plane crash

Kathmandu, 9 Sept: Three crew members of Sita Air crew survived hen a place on a test flight caught fire while landing at Nepalgunj airport.
The plane skidded 200 meters after a wheel fell during landing catching fire.
Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal has stranded overnight at nepalgunj after the accident.
He was returning to the capital to attend a regular cabinet meeting Wednesday.

Prachanda meets controversial Indian Prof SD Muni; new Indian foreign secretary coming

Kathmandu, 9 Sept: Chairman Sunday returned hurriedly to the capital from Biratnagar, Janaastha reports.
Prachanda then flew for Surkhet Monday after meeting an Indian diplomat who flew in from New Delhi.
Prachand held on hour-long at his residence with Prof SD Muni who is knowledgeable on Nepal affairs.

Girija normal

Kathmandu, 9 Sept: The health condition of Nepali Congress President Girija Prasad Koirala, who has been suffering from fever and urine infection for the past three days, became normal Tuesday, The Rising Nepal reports.
“Koiirala can now do this personal works from home,” said Dr Man Bahadur KC, doctor who was involved in Koirala’s treatment.

Low rating for Nepal

Kathmandu, 9 Sept: Nepal ranked 125th out of 133 countries in The Global Competitiveness Report 2009/10 released by World Economic Forum in Dalian, China, The Rising Nepal reports.
The report’s competitiveness ranking based on the Global Competitiveness Index (GCI) claimed that Nepal’s volatile scenario, weak governance, poor infrastructure, lack of capacity for innovation, among others, were attributed to Nepal’s 9th position from the countdown of the 133 countries.
Nepal scored 3.3 of 7.0 in GCI in 2009/10 as compared 3.4 in 2008/09.
