CONSTITUTION SUB-COMMITTEE MEET BEGINS
Kathmandu, 16 March: An empowered seven-member sub-committee headed by Maoist Chairman Prachanda held discussions Wednesday to sort out differences on 36 of 75 contentious points to be included in a constitution that has to be promulgated 28 May.
The sub-committee met for the first time Wednesday after its tenure was extended for 15 days by a main constitution drafting committee.
The sub-committee could resolve differences on 75 points in the allotted 15 days.
Discussions are being held not at the 598-member constituent assembly but at the sub-committee with representatives of selected parties to meet the deadline.

FIREFIGHTER KILLED IN SANKHUWASABHA
Kathmandu, 16 March: A firefighter was killed Tuesday in Sakhuwwasa while containing a forest fire.
Rabindra Rai, 15, died when a burning twig fell on him, according
to police.

THREE MADESHBADI LEADERS IN NEW DELHI
Kathmandu, 16 March: Three Madeshbadi leaders are presently on a ‘political pilgrimage; in New Delhi as Maoists and UML attempt to strengthen their hold on Singha Durbar with a majority in parliament.
Former Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of MJFD Bijaya Kumar Gachedhar, TMLP Chairman Manhanata Thakur and NSP Chairman Rajendra Mahoto followed Surya Bahadur Thapa to the Indian capital.
The former prime minister and Chairman of RJP who has been pushing a ‘democratic alliance’ held top level discussions with Congress (I) Chairperson Sonia Gandhi, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, ministers, political party leaders and senior bureaucrats.
Former King Gyanendra, who’s in India to attend a wedding of a relative, returns home via New Delhi Thursday.
He could hold discussions with leaders in New Delhi.

NEPALI WORKERS IN BAHRAIN ADVISED CAUTION
Kathmandu, 16 March: Nearly 30,000 Nepali workers in
Bahrain have been asked by the Nepali embassy in neighbouring Saudi Arabia to remain alert at an emergency was slapped amid swelling protests against the king.
The embassy looks after Nepali interests in Bahrain where there’s no embassy.
The embassy asked nationals not to get involved in protests while asking Nepalis not to move around in groups.
Workers have been advised to store essentials.

DETAILS OF CIAA EDICT TO SCRAP APPOINTMENTS OF LABOUR ATTACHES
Kathmandu, 16 March: CIAA said the previous government flouted a foreign employment act and regulation while appointing labour attaches to Japan, South Korea, Hong Kong, Oman, Israel and Kuwait and overturned the decision of the ministry of labour and transport (MoLT) Tuesday.
The anti-grant agency said government didn’t nominate attaches to Bahrain and Lebanon, as stated in the employment act, where there are more than 5,000 migrant workers.
CIAA asked for coordination between MoLT and foreign ministry to appoint attaches.
The agency has recommended appointments of attaches with English language and local language skills.

THAMEL HOTELIER IN JUDICIAL CONTODY FOR ATTEMPTED RAPE
Kathmandu, 16 March: Kamal Kusna Tharu, a Thamel hotelier, was remanded to judicial custody by Kathmandu district court for alleged attempt to rape a 23-year-old American woman.
The tourist filed a charge last week.
District attorney office chilled a rape charge on behalf of the client.

MS THAPA RE-ELECTED RASHTRIYA JANAMUKTI PARTY CHIEF
Kathmandu, 16 March: MS Thapa has been re-elected chairman of Rashtriya Janamukti Party by the party’s 4th general convention in Nawalparasi Tuesday.
Thapa defeated his rival Ghore Bahadur Khapange by 39 votes.
Surya Rajbanshi was elected general secretary, Tara Balal Magar and Chandra Shrish deputy general secretaries; Hari Shanker was elected treasurer unopposed.
A 65-mmber central committee was elected.

MAOIST MOUTHPIECE JANADISHA FOLDS
Kathmandu. 16 March: Maoist mouthpiece Janadisha has folded from Wednesday.
Krishna Sen, its founding editor, was killed during the 10-year
insurgency.
‘W had to halt publication of the newspaper due to lack of financial resources,” said Assistant Editor Lekhnath Neupane.
