MAOISTS LAUNCH VOLUNTEER FORCE

DIFFERENCES ON PROPOSED FEDERAL STRUCTURE

Kathmandu, 15 March: Without agreement on a federal structure between major political players, a state reorganization committee under a constitution drafting committee Tuesday sent its report attached with questionnaires to a main drafting committee..
Maoist Vice-chairman said reports of other thematic had been sent with such questionnaires without unanimity.
NC Chief Whip of parliament Laxman Ghimere reiterated his party’s demand for a state restructuring commission to determine a future of a federal structure to replace a unitary state.
Ghimere said his party can’t accept a Maoist proposal for 14 provinces carved out on ethnic and regional basis.
‘Fourteen rajas can’t be accepted,” NC leader Ram Chandra Paudel earlier said.
There are 11thematic committees in the assembly.
Without agreement on a federal structure, number of lawmakers in a bicameral legislature at the center can’t be determined.
Time is running out to promulgate a constitution to institutionalize a
declared republic by 28 May.
Meanwhile, NC leadar Dr. Ram Sharan Mahat said Tuesday he’s concerned with the present political situation.
‘I’m concerned. There’s no possibility of peace. Possibility of promulgating a constitution is diminishing. Efforts at left polarization won’t succeed,” he told Radio Nepal.

MAOISTS LAUNCH PEOPLE’S VOLUNTEER BUREAU

Kathmandu, 15 March: As declared, Maoists Tuesday declared a peoples’ volunteer bureau Tuesday.
A 10-member body led by standing committee Netra Bahadur Chand will direct it.
A meeting of party office bearers Monday formally decided to
launch the new body.
